Our History

The original 9 holes were constructed in 1976 and officially opened in 1978.

In 1980 the farmers cornfield became available. New greens were added and the order of play altered, which opened in 1982. Over the intervening years, numerous improvements were made to the course. Notably, alterations to the 3rd, 4th and 8th greens. Hundreds of trees were planted and 15 bunkers were introduced.

In 1986 the first feasibility drawings were made to extend the course to 18 holes. Due to changes in size and shape of the land available, various changes to the design of the course were made during its development and from having very little money for a course’s basic requirements, coal extraction provided the money to fulfil our hopes and needs.

What now can be seen is the result of co-operation and assistance of a large number of people; some professionals and other total amateurs, who worked tirelessly together to build a course we are very proud of.

General Course Etiquette

Although we are a fairly relaxed club, we do ask visitors to respect our rules and golfing etiquette to ensure their visit is enjoyable.

Although handicap certificates are not essential, we do prefer golfers to be of a good standard for them to be able to enjoy their round and for them not to inconvenience other players when out on the course, although we do appreciate you have to start somewhere.

We ask that all pitch marks are repaired, divots are replaced and bunkers are raked if you’re unlucky enough to land in one. This ensures everyone has an enjoyable round.

Please keep pace with the group in front of you and avoid slow play.

Switch off phones or select silent mode whilst out on the course.
